So as for Where the Strangers Live, it’s bad. The way I see it, I’m not really doing a serious review of the book, I’m just talking about my experiences so I don’t really see the point in forcing myself to finish it. After further attempts, I had to stop because I honestly just couldn’t take it. I’ve also read a bit into Spyder Bones and every word throws my psyche into revolt. I read half of Where the Strangers Live and then I couldn’t take it anymore so I stopped.

Also keep in kind that these books are free with Kindle Unlimited and otherwise most of them are only three bucks, the most expensive one I saw was six, so if you want to take this adventure with me feel free to do so. Anyway, before I begin reading and rereading my short selection of the Phipps catalogue, all I can say is that I recommend reading his short Amazon bio, or alternatively his slightly longer bio on his website.

I don’t have anything else to say about this, I have no background with the book and didn’t know about it until I looked over his Amazon catalog. I cannot describe how excited I am to read a book called Spyder Bones by Oliver Phipps.

Other than that I’m not going to summarize the full story, I’ll just comment on the important bits after I reread it.Īs for Spyder Bones, I am excited out of my mind to read this. I asked my English teacher to read a bit and when she got to that portion of the free sample she laughed out loud because it was so terrible. Other than that, I remember there being three protagonists Troy, who’s described only as being from Indiana (or was it Illinois?), a second guy who was only described as being slightly manlier than Troy, and Sophie (I think) who was described as French, a marine biologist, and being in possession of a very good ass. I’m usually not a stickler for grammar, I think that as long as your writing is understandable and grammar mistakes don’t distract horribly form your writing you’re ok, but I remember his grammar distracting me A LOT. The thing that sticks out most to me is that I seem to remember Phipps using an average of five semicolons a page, and he seemingly used them instead of commas, in my opinion as a vain attempt to make himself look smart. So before I reread Where the Strangers Live, I want to give a quick rundown of what I remember to see how it holds up to reality. I’m extremely excited to revisit this author and have my ridiculous Phipps rant recorded on the internet forever. I read it a few years ago with a good friend of mine, I don’t think it took us more than two hours to read out loud together, and it was honestly a religious experience. Where the Strangers Live occupies a special place in my heart as it was the first Phipps masterpiece I ever encountered. So anyway, Spyder Bones came out in 2018, and will serve as a good representation of Mr Phipps’ current skill level. After reading the description and reviews it really seems like it’s just about auctions. Maybe he pulls some crazy twist and it tricks you into thinking it’s a guide but it’s actually some wild meta thing about a ghost but I really doubt it. Finally, yes, Secrets for Success at Your Local Auctions is a guide to auctions amidst a portfolio of supernatural stories. As of now I haven’t yet read Spyder Bones, but I plan on remedying that and I’ll write about it later in this post. Spyder is referred to as a “mystic warrior”, take that as you will. Spyder is, thank God, not his birth name, but it does seem to be what he goes by.

All I have to say about Spyder Bones is that yes, in case you’re wondering, the protagonist’s name IS Spyder Bones, I don’t know how to feel about that other than that it’s a negative feeling. Tears of Abandon is completely unremarkable. Where the Strangers Live was my first introduction to the man’s work, and I’ll discuss it in more depth through the rest of this post. First, let’s unpack just this short list. Oliver has quite a few works under his belt, with notable works including Where the Strangers Live, Tears of Abandon, Spyder Bones, Secrets for Success at Your Local Auctions as well as many, many more. Visions of Oliver Phipps worm their way into my mind in the latest hours of the night, keeping me awake as I writhe in mental agony. Oliver Phipps is the antagonist of my life. In the past, I’ve briefly alluded to an author named Oliver Phipps.
